On January 16, 1998, the dead body of an unknown woman was found after a fire in a houseboat on the Jacob van Lennepkade in Amsterdam. She turned out to have a fake ID and the police did not find out her name despite an investigation.

Although people called her Karen or Catherine, it is questionable whether this was her real name. Investigations into the house fire were unable to demonstrate how the fire started, and it was therefore never clear whether it was a crime or an accident. In the hope that people would recognize her, police experts made a composite drawing of what the woman looked like when she was alive (see image). The victim was wearing the following jewelry: gold-colored earrings, two gold-colored thin chains. A gold-colored heart hung from one of them.
